Math Tutor Group
About Our Program
McMath Mania was created by Kilyn McClellan who had a goal of incorporating her love for children, her interest in mathematics, her love for volunteering, and the art of leadership together. After quite a bit of brainstorming, she concluded that she wanted to design a program for elementary students to attend that would help them excel in math. Each Tuesday from 3:45pm-4:45pm, a group of high school students come to Centerville Elementary School and help to lead the activities. For students who are struggling with homework, the high school students work one-on-one with them in a positive learning environment to give them the tutor assistance they need. As for students without tutor needs who attend this program, there will be weekly games and activities that are math oriented to help students grow their love of math at a young age. Ultimately, Kilyn hopes to track students' homework scores (for the older students that attend) and compare them to students with similar scores who do not attend, to analyze their improvements correlated to their attendance to McMath Mania. To stay updated with what is going on each week, there will be weekly blog posts on this website. All of the high school volunteers are very excited to get to know the kids that they are working with and hope to leave a positive impact on their lives.
